Jewelry Care

To care for your handcrafted jewelry pieces, avoid wearing them during strenuous activities. Remove when swimming or doing other activities that get jewelry wet, such as cleaning or putting lotion on your hands. Sterling silver will tarnish over time depending on exposure to moisture and oxygen. The chemicals in our bodies also affect tarnish – some people find their jewelry tarnishes less than others. Tarnishing can be controlled by storing pieces in plastic bags. Cleaning tarnish is easily done with a polishing cloth. I use yellow sunshine cloths. When using a polishing cloth on jewelry with porous stones such as turquoise, opal, or coral, be careful to not use the cloth directly on the stones as it can color them. Metal will break if adjusted without annealing. When you receive your handcrafted jewelry, it should be all set to wear. At times a cuff bracelet may need minor adjusting to make it a perfect fit for your wrist. Carefully make any adjustments to the band away from the stone.
